weissenhofsiedlung car wash

The project is located in the Weissenhof colony, built by the early Modernist architects in Stuttgart in 1927. Several houses have been demolished over time; this site is one of the empty ones.

As the initial concept of the colony was the marketing of the new architecture, the project (which was to be a "futuristic car wash") looks at the marketing of the electric car. Taking cues from switchable cell phone covers, the project envisions an electric car chassis which is purchased without a body. As an acceptance of and commentary on our consumptive culture, the "car wash" simply three-dimensionally prints a new plastic body for the car when the consumer visits.

After driving up and selecting the new skin from the screen display on the building, the old skin is melted down and recycled, and the new skin is placed on the car automatically.
